Watercooler Buzz

A NYC penthouse was just listed for $250 million. If it gets its asking price, the Central Park Tower triplex would be the country’s most expensive deal to date. The previous record was set when hedge-fund billionaire Ken Griffin spent about $238 million on a condo across the street.

“The nine-figure club is a special club, and that club is also now looking to own nine-figure real estate.”

- Ryan Serhant, Listing Agent

A Mickey Mantle baseball card sold for $12.6 million, making it the most valuable piece of sports memorabilia ever to be sold at auction. The card, issued by the collectible company Topps in 1952, would have been sold at that time in a wax-wrapped pack that cost a penny or a nickel.

"We always knew this card would shatter records and expectations, but that doesn’t make it any less of a thrill.”

- Chris Ivy, Director of Sports Auctions at Heritage Auctions

Lumber $$$ Skyrocketing Again.. No end to expensive housing

Lumber prices are skyrocketing again; even though in the second half of 2021 they stabilized to pre-pandemic pricing.

Why is this happening again?
Climate change, heavy rain and flooding in Canada has disrupted the supply chain. This has a massive repercussion in the US market since 25% of the lumber comes from Canada. Then there is the environmental reason for the beetle infestation. Also the US has doubled the tariffs on imports from Canada on the softwoods.
What does this mean to us in Real Estate?
It’s been said that lumber has gone up 200%.
This puts enormous pressure on the builders building new homes, making housing more expensive.
